Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year for 2023 has just been announced, and it is... SW 9081, Redend Point!
2023 Color of the Year - Redend Point (SW 9081)
Every year, Sherwin-Williams (the largest paint company in the world) announces their choice for the Color of the Year. They base the choice on current events, trends, input from influencers, and a prediction of what will be popular in the year ahead. Of course as the largets paint company in the world, their announcement alone is enough to influence the poularity of the color they choose.
In 2022, Sherwin-Williams picked Evergreen Fog (SW 9130) which they described as, "soothing, subtle, and a perfect shade to freshen up any space."
Today we learned that their choice for 2023 Color of the Year is...
Redend Point (SW 9081)
On their website, Sherwin-Williams descibes Redend Point as, "Minimal yet cozy, this color creates a comforting backdrop for the everyday moments that matter" and they encourage people to, "Embrace a spirit of connection with the world around us with this soulful-yet-subtle hue."

In real estate we're seeing more and more homes painted entirely in one interior color, often white or slightly off white. Of course we also see lots of "Builder Beige," different tones of grey (or is it gray?), and a combination of the two that is often referred to as "greige."
2022 Color of the Year
Personally, I really liked the 2022 Color of the Year, and this descrption:
"Evergreen Fog SW 9130 is a versatile and calming hue, a chameleon color of gorgeous green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue. It's a simple but sophisticated wash of beautiful, organic color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade."
It isn't a color that you could use everywhere in your home, but as an accent color on a wall or decorating accessories I think it was a home run!
I'm not sure yet what I think of Redend Point. On their website, Sherwin-Williams shows the color on walls, furniture, even kitchen cabinets. To me it looks like a more sohisticated beige, with some pink hues and a bit of copper. I wonder how it would "reflect" on other colors in a room - will it give them a touch of beige or pink?
As I look back at past Sherwin-Williams Colors of the Year, there have been some really bold choices (check out 2018 Color of the Year: Oceanside, SW 6496) and some that seemed like pretty "safe" choices (2017 Color of the Year: Poised Taupe SW 6039).
